The North Loop Dog Owner Group is looking for volunteers to help plant trees, which were graciously donated by a dog lover in the neighborhood, in the new dog park on Friday November 2nd at 2pm, or as soon as you can make it.
We’ll be at 8th Avenue North and 3rd Street North, and we’ll be digging! Thank you for your help!
The new dog park is opening on Wednesday, October 24th. If you would like to help please contact group chair, Bruce Huisinga.
Because the new dog park in the North Loop will be opening soon, residents are forming the the North Loop Dog Owner Group (NL-DOG) and holding their first meeting on MONDAY, OCTOBER 22ND, 6:30PM AT JAVA J'S (700 North Washington Ave). Attendants will be discussing which, what kind and how many materials will be in the new park (i.e. benches or chairs, dog bowls, garbage cans, etc.), maintenance issues, fundraising and much more. If you are interested in hearing information about this project, donating funds, volunteering services, or just simply have something to say, please come by Java J's on Monday after work and be a part of the Urban Dog Park Movement in Downtown Minneapolis.
See you there!
The North Loop Dog Grounds, which has been in the planning phase for over a year, broke ground today! If the rain subsides, it should be open in just a few weeks.
Congratulations to North Loop Dog Owners!
If you would like to become a member of the North Loop Dog Owner Group, please contact group chair, Bruce Huisinga.

Come march with your neighbors and their pooches in the parade to celebrate Loring Park and the new off-leash play area.
What: The new downtown Minneapolis ‘Dog Grounds’ off-leash play area for dogs is set to unveil a piece of custom made artwork.
When: Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.
Where: North corner of Loring Park next to the Minneapolis Community Technical College.
More: The artwork being unveiled is a 16 ft. tall, 800 lb., wood-carved totem pole, custom designed by renowned canine artist, Bill Blaxley, sculpted by world champion chainsaw sculptor, Dennis Roghair, and commissioned by Ray Harris, a Loring resident and downtown developer.
Dog Grounds is a privately funded, state-of-the-art dog park, particularly for residents of downtown Minneapolis. There are also limestone boulders sized and placed for seating throughout the compounds of the fence, which is a black, ornamental, commercial-grade aluminum. The new 10,000 sq. ft. play area is similar in size to dog runs in New York City, where dog ownership and urban density are some of the highest in the country, and enhanced by these beautiful artistic features.
