Elliot Park Off Leash Play Area

The Dog Grounds off-leash play area in the Elliot Park neighborhood will be located on a piece of unused land on 4th Avenue S between 10th and 11th Street S, near the American Express building, and across the entrance ramp to 35W South from Triangle Park, which sits in between the ramps on 10th Street S. The site has been vacant since the Interstate was built and the land became a right-of-way owned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. There is currently a sidewalk and wrought iron fence that runs through the grass and large trees on the property. There is also a line of parking meters for the diagonal spaces along 4th Avenue S.

Members of the Dog Grounds Board are now working with the City and MN/DOT to secure a lease over the property so we can move forward with fundraising, design, and construction. A group of nearby residents has created an organization called "Friends of Triangle Park" that is applying for 501(c)3 status and recruiting members from Grant Park and all over Elliot Park. This group is attempting to improve the quality of the park and the land that will become the dog park.

Dog Grounds volunteers are currently planning events for neighborhood dog owners. "I can't wait for the new play area (roof)", said Grant Park resident, Bogie, alongside his owners Terry and Bob Day, at his recent birthday party at E.P. Atelier, a dog-friendly coffee and culture shop two blocks from the site of the site. Other Dog Grounds events like "Dog Day at the Dome" last spring were a huge success and will hopefully be replicated this winter.

This group is made up of residents, workers, business owners, and property owners in the Elliot Park neighborhood that have an interest in the off-leash play area - dog owner or not.  They work in cooperation with Elliot Park Neighborhood, Incorporated, the newly-formed "Friends of Triangle Park", and the Grant Park Pet Owners Committee.
