North Loop Off Leash Play Area

The Dog Grounds off-leash play area in the North Loop neighborhood is currently under construction. Located at 3rd Street North and 8th Avenue North next to the Herschel Lofts Building. The area will be around 6,000 sq. ft. solely dedicated for off-leash play by neighborhood dogs. Construction materials and plans to upgrade the interior of the park are currently being investigated by Dog Grounds, Schafer-Richardson, the North Loop Neighborhood Association and a group of dog owners from the area.

The North Loop dog park was originally planned to be located across 3rd Street in the Bassett Creek Parking Lot. Th site was was extensively researched, discussed and designed by a group of neighborhood volunteers working with Landscape Architect, Zachary Bloch from HGA. Major parking constraints and long-term plans to improve the neighborhood eventually made this site impractical and the new site was selected. Dog Grounds thanks everyone that was involved in the previous effort for the time and energy they devoted to the project. Your dogs will be off-leash in the neighborhood soon!

This group will be made up of residents, workers, business owners, and property owners in the North Loop neighborhood that have an interest in the new off-leash play area - dog owner or not. They will work side-by-side with the North Loop Neighborhood Association, the property owners, Schafer-Richardson, and Dog Grounds' Board of Directors.

Because the new dog park in the North Loop will be opening soon, residents are forming the the North Loop Dog Owner Group (NL-DOG) and holding the first meeting on MONDAY, OCTOBER 22ND, 6:30PM AT JAVA J'S (700 North Washington Ave). Attendants will be discussing which, what kind and how many materials will be in the new park (i.e. benches or chairs, dog bowls, garbage cans, etc.), maintenance issues, fundraising and much more. If you are interested in hearing more information about this project, donating funds, volunteering services, or just simply have something to say, please come by Java J's on Monday after work and be a part of the Urban Dog Park Movement in Downtown Minneapolis. See you there!
