The Dog Grounds off-leash play area in the Elliot Park neighborhood will be located on a piece of unused land on 4th Avenue S between 10th and 11th Street S, near the American Express building, and across the entrance ramp to I-35W South from "Triangle Park", which sits in between the ramps on 10th Street S. The site has been vacant since the interstate was built and the land became a highway right-of-way owned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. There is currently a sidewalk and wrought iron fence that runs through the grass and large trees on the property. There is also a line of parking meters for the diagonal spaces along 4th Avenue S.
Many events are currently being planned for this summer including: A Triangle Park Block Party on National Night Out, a party at the dog-friendly Elliot Park Atelier Coffee Shop, "Yappy Hours" on the site using temporary fencing, and more!
Stay tuned for more updates and invitations to Dog Grounds events and remember we always need volunteers!
Construction of the Dog Grounds off-leash play area in the Loring neighborhood is now complete and dog owners are already taking advantage! It is located in the north corner of Loring Park between the Minneapolis Community Technical College and the Loring Park businesses along Harmon Place. The site was a long, thin piece of grass and trees with a gentle slope on the vacated Harmon Place right-of-way before the land was cleared for construction. The Historic Ole Bull statue overlooks close by.
The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board owns the property and approved the project in February 2007. Shortly after, MPRB Staff signed a 10-year operational agreement with members of Dog Grounds' Board of Directors.
This play area features "The Bridge to Erewon", a climbing/play feature, and limestone boulders for dogs to play and climb on and humans to sit on. Black, ornamental, commercial-grade aluminum fencing and decomposed granite ground cover have been installed, the fir trees on the site have remained as they are, and of course there are plenty of pick-up bags and garbage cans.
The Dog Grounds off-leash play area in the North Loop neighborhood is under construction! It is located on Schafer-Richardson property next to the Herschel Building on 3rd Street North and 7th Avenue North. The site is temporary because there are plans to locate a permanent dog park on SR's property in the next few years.
The red building in the background of this photo is Bunker's.
